On Feb 13, 2011 several of us traveled to Kudashi village to support the commencement of what will become a 20 village cluster or 40 village women empowerment project. Anne Godfrey, founder of Rose Circles http://rosecircles.com, has been training women below the poverty line, in stitching to produce cottage industry products. Thus, helping these tribal women to become for financially independent.
The location of this project is in Dhule District, Maharsthra. It has been funded by Lupin Foundation of Mumbai, India. The purpose is to go into 40 villages where the women are BPL (below the poverty line) and help to develop a sustainable source of income. The products and skills these women learn will help to uplift their present situation.
Many of these women are widowed, or with incurable diseases. Most also have small children they are raising alone, as well. This type of model is very valuable to them because it is designed to generate income not only from the international market, but also from the local market.
To contribute in any way to such projects is very joyful. For example, I have a background in media which includes web development, film, and photography. Therefore my involvement is documentation and promotion of this project through various channels. There are many things people can do to contribute and what a way to contribute :).
